Mayrhofen

Tucked high up in the Zillertal Valley, Mayrhofen is world-famous for its winter sports but also a magnet for summer visitors. This is fast-becoming one of our most sought-after and best-liked holidays, as there is such a host of things to do. The town itself is a mecca for shoppers and has a host of restaurants, cafes and bars. Every evening there is live entertainment somewhere in the town or region and during the day we have a great selection of excursions. Guests to the beautiful Zillertal Valley have a nigh-endless choice of sporting activities during their summer holidays: hiking, climbing, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, white water rafting, canyoning, summer tobogganing, tennis and much more are all widely available. It is also absolutely ideal for those of a less athletic disposition and is perfect for relaxation. Your ActivCard will enable you to travel on all the local railways, bus routes and cable-cars. Enjoy a ride on the Zillertalbahn to the lovely little town of Zell am Ziller; travel on to Schutters or even Jenbach; or take the local bus up to Gerlos, high in the mountains. Relax in one of six wonderful swimming facilities and receive discounts off sauna and treatments. Check out the local cafes and restaurants to see how their Apfelstrudel compares. Enjoy some musical entertainment throughout the town, come sundown. Spend time with new-found friends over a hot chocolate or a glass of Austrian wine or beer. Mayrhofen is also just over an hour away from the wonderful city of Innsbruck and the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls, the highest in Europe, so there is no excuse for not enjoying yourself.

PROPOSED EXCURSIONS

Please note these are subject to change and other excursions may be added.

“Zillertal ActivCard”- worth around €300 per person.

The card entitles you to travel on numerous lifts and cable cars and to free or reduced entrance to a multitude of places. You also travel free, as often as you wish, on all local buses and on the Zillertal railway as far as Jenbach.

Krimml Waterfalls. Extra cost £50  (Activity Level 2-4)

We will depart the hotel at 9.15am for the short walk to the bus and railway station, from where we commence our journey to Krimml Waterfalls. The return journey departs for Mayrhofen regularly and you can return at your leisure.

Mountain Journeys

As Mayrhofen is right in the heart of the mountains, it would be daft not to get up there and enjoy them. We will be arranging excursions almost every day, including cable-car trips and a selection of gentle walks. If you’re fit enough to walk 100 metres to the cable car station, you can easily enjoy these soft adventures

Innsbruck Adventure (£40pp)

Today’s excursion is by train, journey time approx. 1.5 hours each way, right into the heart of Innsbruck. Your host, Alan, will give you a brief overview of the city on arrival, before you have free time to explore the shops and cafes, the museums and galleries. Or, you may wish to ride the cable car and get stunning views of the city from above. Cable-car not included in fare.

Local Festivals

During our visit to Mayrhofen, there will be a number of local festivals, one or two of which we shall try to attend. These tend to offer a mixture of local music, typical Tyrolean food and drink and a selection of shops and craft stalls. Full details in resort.

Walking and Hiking

Of course, this would not be a “Acetours” holiday without some serious walking….but only for those who want a bit of exertion. We have a number of walks and treks, all safe and on marked paths. We’ll assess locally if you’re fit enough for them and give you more accurate details. We won’t guarantee you’ll lose any weight, as the hotel meals are so delicious and filling, but you will certainly be fitter!

All excursions to be reviewed and updated.
