Walking Tour of down-town Frankfurt. FREE.

Starting from the hotel, we will take a tram to the old city centre, from where we will take you on a short walking tour of Frankfurt. We will finish at the Christmas Market, from where you can jump on a hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus, if you wish. See the impressive skyline, locally nicknamed “Mainhattan”, due to the number of skyward-stretching banks and investment companies.

Hop On – Hop Off Sightseeing Bus - £17

Always one of the best ways to see a city, you can pick up the bus from close to the hotel or from the “Altstadt”. See the sights at your own pace; there are 22 stops and you can hop on and off at your leisure.

Daytrip to Rüdesheim – £25 per person

Rüdesheim is a chocolate-box town, perched on the banks of the mighty River Rhine. It’s twisting alleyways and cobbled squares give home to one of Germany’s nicest Christmas Markets, “Market of the Nations”, with stalls from all over Europe. Picturesque, half-timbered houses line the upper part of the town, where “Siegfrieds Musical Kabinett” museum maintains and restores hundreds of beautiful old mechanical instruments, some worth thousands of Euro. Your visit to Rüdesheim includes entrance to the museum. There is no shortage of places to eat, either, from stalls selling tasty snacks to romantic restaurants, offering well-priced meals and fine wines.

Daytrip to Wurzburg - £35 per person

The train fare alone is €49.80, so this excursion is excellent value. In the heart of Würzburg's Old Town one of Germany’s most picturesque and enchanting Christmas Markets attracts thousands of visitors every year. The Christmas market's tradition dates back to the early 19th century. The historic market square with its Gothic Chapel of St Mary and its abundance of Baroque architecture provide a scenic backdrop for almost 120 wooden stalls. Choose from handmade holiday decorations ranging from artful glass, straw, pewter and pottery to wooden toys.

Look out for original knitwear, creative jewelry, mouth-watering delicatessen or tasty gingerbread for your loved ones. Sample delicious Franconian Christmas cookies and roasted almonds, and don't forget to sip the traditional Glühwein, a popular hot red wine infused with spices such as cinnamon, cloves, and orange peel.

We will return to Frankfurt in the late evening.

Tipping / Gratuities

Tips for staff in restaurants are already included in the cost of your holiday. Whilst no tipping of household staff in the hotels is necessary, it is customary, possibly expected, to leave a small tip for the staff who clean your room. This is not included in the cost of the holiday and is totally up to you as to how much, if anything, you decide to leave. The going rate is, however, around €3 or €4 pp/pd. If you are having a coffee or a beer, it is usual to round up the cost to the nearest one or two Euro. Any tip is always appreciated but rarely sought.

Weather, Clothes, Money, etc.

It is likely to be cold but probably not freezing. We recommend that you bring a selection of clothing but you can certainly leave your tee-shirts at home. A weatherproof is always a good idea, although Frankfurt has a lot less rainfall than we are accustomed to in Ireland.

Frankurt is in the Eurozone. Credit and Debit cards are widely accepted.

Being an international city, most people speak good English, so you will not have any problems.

Pickpockets are not common in Frankfurt but we always advise you to leave all valuables in your hotel safe and only carry what you might need for one day at a time. Better safe than sorry!

Public Transport is fantastic in Frankfurt, with buses, trams and Regional trains. Fares are cheap and we recommend using the public transport, wherever possible. All of our excursions and tours will include such travel.
